We answer all your questions right here!

What is an electric bike or an EAB?

Sold in France since 1995, the Electrically Assisted Bicycle (EAB) is a bicycle fitted with an electric motor located either at the crank or on one of the wheels. The EAB is also powered by a battery that assists the user while pedalling.

The exact name is EAB: Electrically Assisted Bicycle: its motor only switches on while pedalling and stops when the user stops pedalling or reaches a speed of 25km/h.

Its purpose being to complement pedalling, the EAB is necessarily made up of:

Battery: energy reserve that assists the user when pedalling. The battery provides a very large range and its charger is supplied to power it from the mains

Electric motor: it can be placed in the front wheel, the rear wheel or at the crank; it can sometimes be belt-driven

Pedalling sensor: to detect the rotation of the crank

Controller: accessory that uses the information sent by the pedalling sensor to send current from the battery to the motor. This controller is integrated in the battery block and regulates the various components

Indicator, LCD screen or on-board computer: to monitor the remaining energy in the battery

Note that your Electrically Assisted Bicycle requires neither registration nor insurance. Moreover, even wearing a helmet is not compulsory but it is strongly advised.

What makes the electric bike different from an ordinary bike?

Unlike personal bikes, EABs make starting off, riding into the wind and climbs easier. Indeed, electric assistance guarantees riding comfort and gives the user the feeling of riding on a flat road, which is not the case with a normal bike.

Moreover, the electric assistance replaces all the effort made by a user of an ordinary bike, which means riding an EAB is far from tiring. Plus, a charged battery guarantees a range from 20 to 70 km depending on the bikes and the journeys to be made.

Power E-Bike offers various conversion kits and guarantees an excellent quality/price ratio.

Want to know more about the electric bike concept?
