{"id":26939,"date":"2025-11-06T19:58:27","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T18:58:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/rh205-electric-bike-project-customer-account\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T19:58:27","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T18:58:27","slug":"rh205-electric-bike-project-customer-account","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/en\/rh205-electric-bike-project-customer-account\/","title":{"rendered":"RH205 Electric Bike Project: A Customer\u2019s Account"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Electric bike project<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17966\" src=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/uploads\/2018\/06\/word-image-4.jpeg.webp\" alt=\"Customer\u2019s electric bike project \u2014 photo 1\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h1>Requirements:<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>40 Km a day with a few gentle slopes<\/li>\n<li>Desired speed around 35 Km\/h with some torque<\/li>\n<li>A battery on the luggage rack<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Starting the project<\/h1>\n<p>There were many questions at the start: what type of motor and power, rear wheel or under the bottom bracket, what battery, and compatibility with my Decathlon hybrid bike\u2026<\/p>\n<h1>The electric conversion kit<\/h1>\n<p>I began by looking at the different conversion kits on the market and chose the Power E-bike RH205c kit for:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>its value for money<\/li>\n<li>its compatibility with 36, 48 and 60v batteries<\/li>\n<li>its motor range, allowing a kit to be chosen according to speed and torque<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/fr\/kit-de-conversion-velo-electrique\/kit-moteur-arriere-nine-continent-rh205c-type-s-sans-batterie.html#\/\">https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/fr\/kit-de-conversion-velo-electrique\/kit-moteur-arriere-nine-<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/fr\/kit-de-conversion-velo-electrique\/kit-moteur-arriere-nine-continent-rh205c-type-s-sans-batterie.html#\/\">continent-rh205c-type-s-sans-batterie.html#\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For my use, I chose the intermediate RH205S 280\/380 kit with a 48V battery:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17969\" src=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/uploads\/2018\/06\/word-image-7.jpeg.webp\" alt=\"Customer\u2019s electric bike project \u2014 photo 2\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h1>The battery<\/h1>\n<p>Different mounting arrangements are available:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>on the frame: bottle or trapezoid<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17971\" src=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/uploads\/2018\/06\/word-image-9.jpeg.webp\" alt=\"Customer\u2019s electric bike project \u2014 photo 3\" title=\"\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17973\" src=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/uploads\/2018\/06\/word-image-11.jpeg.webp\" alt=\"Customer\u2019s electric bike project \u2014 photo 4\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a luggage rack with an integrated battery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17975\" src=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/uploads\/2018\/06\/word-image-13.jpeg.webp\" alt=\"Customer\u2019s electric bike project \u2014 photo 5\" title=\"\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17977\" src=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/uploads\/2018\/06\/word-image-15.jpeg.webp\" alt=\"Customer\u2019s electric bike project \u2014 photo 6\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>on the luggage rack, inside panniers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17979\" src=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/uploads\/2018\/06\/word-image-17.jpeg.webp\" alt=\"Customer\u2019s electric bike project \u2014 photo 7\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>I chose the battery integrated into the luggage rack for these reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>security: the battery is locked, unlike one inside panniers<\/li>\n<li>a frame-mounted battery did not fit my hybrid bike<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then there is the question of Lithium-Ion versus LifePO4 batteries<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Lithium-Ion benefit: lighter<\/li>\n<li>LifePO4 benefits: better performance in terms of voltage and many more charging cycles, 2000 versus 800 for Lithium batteries. Power E-bike\u2019s tests use LifePO4 batteries from Ping Battery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unable to find a battery integrated into a luggage rack using LifePO4 technology, I chose a Lithium-ion battery from UNITPACKPOWER with its rack (https:\/\/<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aliexpress.com\/snapshot\/0.html?spm=a2g0s.9042647.0.0.p4Pcx7&amp;amp;orderId=89484013\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.aliexpress.com\/snapshot\/0.html?spm=a2g0s.9042647.0.0.p4Pcx7&amp;orderId=89484013<\/a> 105037&amp;productId=32788740780).<\/p>\n<p>When choosing a battery, several parameters matter:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Continuous discharge, not maximum discharge<\/li>\n<li>Voltage. The higher the battery voltage, the higher the speed.<\/li>\n<li>Current. The higher the current, the greater the range.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>The controller<\/h1>\n<p>The type of Power E-bike controller must also be considered. There are 3:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>17A: 36V battery with 600W max (15A max), or 48v with 800 W max (15A max)\n<ul>\n<li>For this controller, the battery\u2019s continuous discharge must be <strong>greater than 17A<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>To approach the speeds quoted on the Power E-bike website, choose a battery with the maximum current rating. For example, a 48v\/15A battery would allow a speed of 48 Km\/h (280\/380), but with less torque than a 22 A controller, giving a greater range.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>22A: 36V battery with 800W max (20A max), or 48v with 1000 W max (20A max), or 60v with 1350 W max (22A max)\n<ul>\n<li>For this controller, the battery\u2019s continuous discharge must be <strong>greater than 22A<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>To approach the speeds quoted on the Power E-bike website, choose a battery with the maximum current rating. For example, a 48v\/20A battery would allow a speed of 48 Km\/h (280\/380), with more torque than the 17A controller but a little less range.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>35A: 36V battery with 1200W max (33A max), or 48v with 1650 W max (34A max), or 60v with 2000 W max (33A max)\n<ul>\n<li>For this controller, the battery\u2019s continuous discharge must be <strong>greater than 35A<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Examples supplied by Power E-bike with a 48v 14,5 ah battery<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>if your 48v 14,5 A battery has a continuous discharge capability of 20 A, it is compatible only with the 17tlcd model (17tlcd = 17 amperes)<\/li>\n<li>if your 48v 14,5 A battery has a continuous discharge capability of 30 A, it is compatible only with the 17tlcd + 22TLCD + 22HLCD models (17 amperes + 22 amperes)<\/li>\n<li>if your 48v 14,5 A battery has a continuous discharge capability of 40 A, it is compatible with all models<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>My battery experience<\/h1>\n<p>In my case, the 48v\/15,6A battery does not let me reach 48Km\/h for 2 reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Power below 1000W -&gt; 48*15,6= 750W. I would have needed a 48V\/20A battery.<\/li>\n<li>Lithium-ion batteries perform a little less well than LIFEPO4 batteries (10%). Unickpack is quite responsive, always replying within 24h. I also spoke to them by telephone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Torque Arm<\/h1>\n<p>This part stiffens the rear of the frame, which is weakened by the weight of the rear wheel. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/fr\/accueil\/torque-arm-pour-moteur-rh205.html\">https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/fr\/accueil\/torque-arm-pour-moteur-rh205.html<\/a><\/p>\n<h1>Motor braking<\/h1>\n<p>My bicycle does not have disc brakes, so I chose brake levers with electrical cutoff. They are very effective at stopping the motor\u2019s inertia.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/fr\/accessoires-velo-electrique\/paire-de-poignees-de-frein-de-type-v-brake-a-coupure-electrique.html\">https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/fr\/accessoires-velo-electrique\/paire-de-poignees-de-frein-de-<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/fr\/accessoires-velo-electrique\/paire-de-poignees-de-frein-de-type-v-brake-a-coupure-electrique.html\"> type-v-brake-a-coupure-electrique.html<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Controller bag<\/h1>\n<p>I found a bag at Decathlon for 10\u20ac, into which I fitted all the wires and the controller. It is tight, but it fits. I then used shoe waterproofing spray to reduce water ingress in the rain.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.decathlon.fr\/sacoche-velo-cadre-300-id_8354453.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.decathlon.fr\/sacoche-velo-cadre-300-id_8354453.html<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Assembly<\/h1>\n<p>Assembly is fairly straightforward; details are below. It took me 3 H to build the complete bike, in this order:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Fitting the wheel\n<ul>\n<li>Fitting the tyre and inner tube<\/li>\n<li>Very light grinding and filing of the bicycle to fit the wheel axle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17981\" src=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/uploads\/2018\/06\/word-image-19.jpeg.webp\" alt=\"Customer\u2019s electric bike project \u2014 photo 8\" title=\"\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17983\" src=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/uploads\/2018\/06\/word-image-21.jpeg.webp\" alt=\"Customer\u2019s electric bike project \u2014 photo 9\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Fitting the torque arms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17985\" src=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/uploads\/2018\/06\/word-image-22.jpeg.webp\" alt=\"Customer\u2019s electric bike project \u2014 photo 10\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Tightening<\/li>\n<li>The first rotation showed that the wheel was out of true. Looking closer, some spokes were loose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17987\" src=\"https:\/\/www.power-e-bike.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/webp-express\/webp-images\/uploads\/2018\/06\/word-image-23.jpeg.webp\" alt=\"Customer\u2019s electric bike project \u2014 photo 11\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>o<\/p>\n<p>After speaking with Power E-bike, I bought a spoke key at Decathlon and trued the wheel.
