Nine Continent RH205 and Rockrider 6.3
07/10/2026Integrating a power-e-bike electric bike kit

Why wait so long to switch to an electric bike kit!
For some time now the idea of going to work by bike in fine weather had been on my mind.
Only here I am, I live 15 km from my work with 300m of positive elevation gain in the morning…the reverse would have been less problematic!
Hence the solution of an kit electric, or solutions should I say, so vast is the choice. motor front? rear? direct drive? geared?
Personally I opted for the direct drive for its reliability, in the rear wheel for a more secure mounting and to keep a light front wheel for more technical MTB passages.
I noticed that practically all the shops offered the rh205nine continent kit, so I told myself it was probably an essential product.
I chose to order it from power-e-bike for several reasons:
– You can choose a winding suited to your use.
– the motor cable comes out on the side and not at the end of the axle.
– the controller is multi-voltage
– the prices are quite fair.
I chose the 6*10 winding with the 22A controller to get torque.
As soon as I received the electric bike kit I could not help fitting it as soon as possible and trying it…with a 36V drill battery (41V charged). I was already satisfied.
Then I ordered 6 batteries lifepo4 (packs of 19.6v 4.5Ah) from a famous modelling brand, to give me 60V 9Ah.
But for now, since I use them in a backpack I only use 3 of them for lightness.
I think I chose the right compromise: the most torquey motor powered at 60V to have speed anyway.
I did a test on the haussire hill (rated the hardest in Belgium) 3.9 km average percentage 7% and 12% max slope.
In 7min56 i.e. 29.5km/h and I never went below 25km/h even in the 12% passages.
I must admit I did pedal throughout the climb.
I initially thought that pedalling in addition of the assistance allowed going much faster, well I notice little difference; the big difference comes from the wattmeter; consumption drops noticeably when pedalling.
For info I used on this climb 1.85Ah and the peak power: 1200w thanks to the wattmeter bought at Hobbyking 17€ whereas it is at a competitor at 48€… (OZons the comparison lol)
What is great is that on a “normal” bike I would have climbed at about 12km/h while suffering, especially since at that speed there is no wind to “refresh” the cyclist.
On the other hand with the conversion kit I chose :
– namely the 180/208 rpm 6x10n it is 25 km/h quietly with a small refreshing wind…,
2 times faster and 3 times less tiring.
I only regret one thing: not having bought it earlier!
I am currently on holiday but ready for bike commuting, canu0027t wait for work to resume…
I first wanted to try it as soon as possible with the controller simply in the bottle cage…
Then, I chose to place the connectors in a bidon for more discretion.
I even dismantled the electronic board to place it in a bidon but it is 8 cm wide and the bottles are usually 7cm.
I keep this idea and the day I find a smaller controller I will integrate it in an aluminium bottle…
But I am afraid of being disappointed, so much does this controller satisfy me…
In the end I think that 3 batteries 4.5Ah 20V would have been enough because I use 3Ah on the way out and 0.5Ah on the return, especially as I can recharge at work. Obviously one must see how these batteries will last over time.
I can say it is the most profitable investment I have made.
Yet I hesitated a long time before buying it, I spent evenings on the net to gather information, to make the right choice, so I will have only one advice: Go for it!
What a pleasure to go to work by electric bike in fine weather, in my case I take 10 minutes more than by car but with the sports activity as a bonus, which would anyway take me more time if I had taken the car to go to work and do a bike ride after the day.
