Higher torque favours climbing at the expense of speed. Range comparison with a 48V battery, measured at 165 rpm, approximately 22 km/h: RH205S-180/280 offers high torque for mountain biking; 230/320 retains torque with more speed; 280/380 balances torque and speed; 330/420 is very fast with enough torque for some hills; 350/480 favours long distances and should be avoided in mountains.
Maximum speeds were measured with a nominal 48V 20Ah LiFePO4 A123 battery charged to 58.4Vdc, a 28A controller, a 28-inch wheel, a 74 kg rider and a 25 kg equipped bicycle. With a 60V battery, the source states an increase of 20 to 30%. Nm means newton-metre; rpm means revolutions per minute.
