07/10/2026The electric bike won back the Jura for us
After moving from Belgium to Switzerland, we quickly realised that our family bike rides were turning into a nightmare… Swapping the flat country sung by Jacques Brel for the foothills of the Bernese Jura does not come without a few calf cramps!
After some research online, the decision was made: we ordered a rh205c 180/280 rpm electric bike kit from Power-e-bike. Good decision: the kit arrived a few days later, very well packed, with the accessories sensibly secured…
Then came the assembly of the wheel with the built-in motor: no particular problems.
Fitting the PAS to the crankset required more thought, and filing down one pedal so that nothing rubbed. It would be a shame to lose part of the benefit of electrification!
The serious challenge began with the brake levers. In our eagerness to order, we had not checked that the gear shifters were fixed to the existing brake levers. No matter: two Shimano twist shifters found on eBay replaced those, which were already ten years old.
For the batteries, our usual radio-control equipment supplier delivered 2 six-cell LiPo packs. Wired in series, this gives us almost 50 volts. With 5A we will not tour Switzerland without recharging, but the hill assist is fantastic and the regenerative braking unbelievably efficient.
In everyday family rides, the thumb throttle turns out to be a better helper than the PAS, since it is easier to dose to match the pace of the others. In efficient commuting mode, the PAS makes its use very transparent.
Fitting the electric bike torque arms solved the wheel’s tendency to slip out of line under the generated torque.
Pure happiness: no more dread facing those sudden and so steep climbs. Very good quality material. Well thought-out details. A coherent and efficient package.
Have a good ride!
