The electric bike won back the Jura for us
07/10/2026Does the electric bike have a place in daily journeys?
07/10/2026Cycling without getting tired and travelling around town without polluting: an idea that increasingly appeals to the French and that has made the electric bike a highly sought-after means of transport in recent years.
Some figures from the e-bike sector
In 2014, a study published by the French federation of sport and leisure industry companies stated that the e-bike sector in France had grown by 37% to reach 77,500 units sold. These figures represent 2.7% of the overall cycle market, whose contribution to the economy is estimated at €1.616 billion. Also, demand for folding bikes saw strong growth estimated at 14% in 2014, against a 5.4% decline recorded for classic city bikes.
According to figures presented by the Union nationale des industriels du vélo (Univélo), the European e-bike market exceeded the one-million-units-sold mark in 2014. France ranks third, just behind Germany and the Netherlands, in terms of bicycle purchases.
The e-bike market, a market with a future
The electric bike market is booming. Cycle manufacturers compete in ingenuity to offer cutting-edge models, both in design and features. Individuals, professionals, men, women, children… There is an electric bike for everyone and a model suited to every use. It is true that the e-bike trend reflects rising prices due to strong demand, but that does not deter fans of this means of transport, who are ready to invest more in return for better quality. Some prefer to buy a ready-to-use electric bike, while others convert their own bikes by fitting an electric motorisation kit. The difference between the two options is almost negligible in terms of cost and performance.
