06/09/2025My new electric bike project
I converted my bicycle into a very powerful electric bike using a conversion kit from Power E-Bike.
Here is a TEST video of this fantastic bike!!!
*** I found another video on my phone!!! ***
Not long ago, our electric bikes were unfortunately stolen. If you are a Power E-Bike customer, you probably received an email from them asking for help finding the bikes. I would like to use this space to warmly thank the Power E-Bike team for their help.
Sadly, the electric bikes were never found. Once I had come to terms with the loss, I decided to roll up my sleeves, open my wallet and start a new 29-inch electric bike project.
For this new bike, I set myself the following very ambitious targets:
- Reach a top speed of 60 km/h!
- A range of up to 60 km.
- Power between 1500 and 1800 W.
- The new electric bike should come with front and rear lights, mudguards for winter and, above all, front and rear disc brakes, because the V-brake pads on my previous bike tended to wear out far too quickly.
- It should be able to cover long distances on both stony tracks and tarmac.
- It should accommodate a child seat, adding 15 to 20 kg.
After much searching online, I finally chose the Cube Travel hybrid bike in 29 inches.
*** The model I used is no longer available, and the newer bikes now come with road tyres as standard. ***

in 28 inches …. 28 inches on a 29-inch bike???? Yes… when sellers describe a bike as 29 inches, this ultimately refers to the overall size of the wheel with its tyre.
Having already received the motor kit, I was able to fit one of the tyres I had chosen to replace the original ones, which the manufacturer described as
Schwalbe Smart Sam, Active 29 inches x2.25
new tyre SCHWALBE Super Moto Evo — 29-inch MTB tyre x 2,35″
fitted to the rim of the 28-inch Power E-bike conversion kit

For the battery, I ordered a Li-ion 60V 20Ah model from the website linked here: 60v 20ah battery.

To be continued… assembly once the bike ordered from Germany and the battery ordered from China have arrived…
Here is the finished electric bike:

I took plenty of photos and will be back soon to show how I assembled this fantastic electric bike, whose performance far exceeded my expectations:
