07/10/2026Sold in France since 1995, the Electrically Assisted Bicycle (EAB) is an ordinary bicycle with an electric motor added. Today, electrically assisted bikes enjoy enormous success: conversion kits now sell by the thousands. Indeed, this type of bike has become a means of transport appreciated by many people.
What place does the electric bike occupy in frequent journeys?
A European survey based on 400 electric bike users showed that the e-bike occupies quite an important place in our daily journeys:
- 45% of users use their e-bike for home-to-work journeys
- 9 km: electric bike users ride an average of 9 km per day
- 19 km/h: e-bike users average 19 km/h in urban areas; this bike is therefore a fast and eco-friendly means of transport
- 40 years old: the average age of electric bike users is 40
- two thirds of users are working employees
- 43% of users live in city centres
Using an electric bike every day is good for your health!
Frequent physical activity helps considerably against chronic diseases (hypertension, cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes) and cardiovascular diseases.
Pedalling an electric bike is considered a much more intense physical activity than walking. Indeed, some users see the e-bike as an excellent way to keep physically fit. Besides, some users say they took up the electric bike following health problems.
It is worth knowing that pedalling for 30 minutes a day can extend life expectancy by 8 years!
Thus, this type of bike is a moderate activity, excellent for your health, in particular for its many benefits in the respiratory, orthopaedic and cardiac fields.
