The 5 things to know before choosing an electric bike
06/10/2026Electric bike battery: (almost) everything you need to know!
06/10/2026Mountain bike, trekking bike, city bike… There are many models of electric-assist bikes. Whether bought new or converted with an electric motorisation kit, the e-bike you use must perfectly match your travel needs.
The e-bike for your urban journeys
The electric bike used in town must be sturdy and easy to handle. This e-bike category contains the largest number of models, allowing you to cover short distances (about twenty km per battery charge). These e-bikes also offer good acceleration so that you can quickly and effortlessly get away from traffic lights, crossroads and roundabouts. City e-bikes generally have a high, close-set handlebar for a comfortable seated position: relaxed arms and a straight back.
The e-bike for suburban journeys
Designed specially for suburban areas, these e-bikes are more powerful and have more range than city bikes (30 km per battery charge). They make it possible to ride at top speed over an even longer distance. Suburban e-bikes are also generally better equipped to offer more comfort: disc brakes, suspension, luggage rack… These electric bikes can be used for urban journeys but also for cycle touring and long rides. Electric trekking bikes are the e-bike models best suited to suburban journeys.
Sport and sport-touring e-bikes
Sturdy, powerful and fast, sport e-bikes offer easy riding on steep terrain. They let you climb steep gradients and face a violent headwind. Sport e-bikes are generally light, rigid and free of accessories. They are also the models with the most range and the fastest, allowing you to cover long distances (at least 50 km per battery charge). The electric mountain bike is the e-bike model best suited to sporting use and is also suitable for suburban journeys.
