Electric bikes and sustainable development: reducing your carbon footprint on two wheels
07/10/2026Electric bikes in summer — Make the most of the season
10/10/2026Maintain the electrical part
Every 500 km, run through a few checks:
- The pedal sensor (pedalling sensor): maintenance depends on how often you ride. If dirt collects between the magnetic washer and the detection cell, clean it with a soft cloth.
- The controller needs no maintenance; never immerse it in water.
- Wipe the motor clean with a damp sponge; never use a pressure washer (motor for RH205C-type bikes: RH205 motor).
- Make sure the brake sensor magnets touch each other: check regularly that cables and connectors stay in place.
- The battery: store it dry, recharge at least once a month in winter and avoid full discharge.
Maintain the mechanical part
For cleaning, use a cloth, a degreaser or a lubricant:
- Clean the chain with dedicated products: dirt stuck to the chain is abrasive and destroys transmission parts, shortening the life of your electric bike.
- Grease the brake pads: the pad angle must be adjusted so the bike stays quiet.
- Clean disc brakes with a suitable product or a cloth soaked in 90% alcohol.
- Check the tyre pressure regularly: the right pressure saves the battery and protects the rims.
If a tyre or inner tube must be replaced, always disconnect the motor power supply via the connector system first.
Watch the weak points of an electric bike
With regular use, the parts under most strain are the chain, the brake pads and the tyres. A quick look every two weeks is enough to catch a stretched cable, a worn pad or an under-inflated tyre before they become a breakdown.
